NITS uses Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 as its primary project
tracking tool. Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 lets organizations
effectively manage and coordinate work—from one-time projects to complex
programs across the entire project life cycle.
The Microsoft TechNet Support Website contains a white paper and a four-part
video series which provide a walkthrough of a typical Microsoft Office Project
Server 2007 deployment.
The white paper contains step-by-step instructions for each step necessary to
successfully deploy Office Project Server 2007. While the scenario described in
the white paper may differ from the deployment scenario that you plan to use for
your organization, you can gain significant hands-on experience by following the
steps described herein in a test environment.
The video series mirrors the steps described in the white paper. The video
series is divided into four parts, as follows:
Part I describes the necessary prerequisites that must be configured
prior to installing Office Project Server 2007, including:
- Creating a domain account to be the farm administrator and database
access account, and to run the Internet Information Services (IIS)
application pools associated with Office Project Server 2007
- Adding the domain account to the local administrators group on all the
computers in the farm
Configuring IIS
- Installing the .NET Framework 3.0 on the computer where Office Project
Server 2007 will be installed
Checking the SQL Server 2005 surface area configuration options to be sure
that remote connections are allowed over TCP/IP
Part II describes the Office Project Server 2007 installation and
configuration process itself, including:
- Installing the Office Project Server 2007 and SharePoint Products and
Technologies software
- Creating the necessary Web applications
- Creating a shared services provider
